Because this error is generally caused by problems with the operating system, you can run a system restore. You can also use utilities such as Check Disk and System File Checker. Now you can finally download the shared company file on the workstation.

First, check the file permissions that you’ve set in Windows. You need to enable sharing for the company file. Next, check your hard drive for damage. You can use the Disk Check utility in Windows to find errors in the hard drive. If an I/O file is damaged, then you can delete it and the operating system will recreate it. Finally, verify the program and data path in Sage 50 to ensure that the program is looking in the correct directory for the company file.

Various issues can prevent Sage 50 from responding. You need to run Sage 50 in the correct compatibility mode and with administrative privileges. You may have to restart the connection manager from the server computer. Restarting the connection manager resumes data sync between the workstation and the server, so Sage 50 starts to respond once the connection to the company file is established.
What should I do if my balance sheet is out of balance in Sage 50?
Once you back up your data, you can go to the Help menu, then Support Utilities and run the Integrity Check. Use the Reindex Files options and check your accounts and Journal entries for errors. It is likely that you’ve never opened the company file in the new version of Sage 50. When you open a company file created in an earlier version of Sage 50, the accounting program automatically upgrades the company file. Without this upgrade,the company file cannot be launched in the new version. You may also have to reset the data path and even restore your company file using the previous version of the program.
Unable to send email incorrect SMTP settings or password. How do I send email now?
Don’t worry. You need to reset your email preferences in Sage 50. You can disable the email option and enable it once again to reset the preferences. You can then enter the correct authentication details to fix the error. You can also repair your default email program if you’re using Microsoft Office Outlook as the email program in Sage 50.
